The Lisps at The Rock Shop
On May 20, 2011, Extropian Records shared an incredible evening with our dear friends, The Lisps. We were also privileged enough to be graced with their friends, The Fancy and Schwervon!, during their album release party at Brooklyn’s The Rock Shop. Playing to a capacity crowd, all three bands were heartwarming, sincere, and brilliant. Moreover, each bands unique style was captivating, drawing the respect of an incredibly attentive-audience. The energy that night built to an atmospheric crescendo and reached a gregarious peak when Michael Cerveris and the cast of
Futurity (The Lisps’ musical) graced the stage along side The Lisps. Furthermore, César, Sammy, Eric, and Lorenzo owned the stage like it was their own living room, sharing an intimacy, banter, and vulnerability not often found in public spaces.
In addition to the amazing music, May 20 marked the dawn of our humble little label. We had some information, we talked, and we listened. Most of all, we were inspired by the amazing feedback and terrific ideas that people had to share with us. The support we received from musicians and fans alike was extraordinary and it made it clearer than ever that our nonprofit model holds tremendous promise. We believe labels are as important as ever; it’s how they operate that needs to change. It is our belief that a label conceived for the distinct purpose of serving its artists, serves music, culture at large, and advances the human state. It seems that many of you feel the same.

The community created within the confines of the Rock Shop’s four walls, albeit temporary will not be forgotten anytime soon. This weekend brought the vision of Extropian Records to life, and speaking personally, it was one of the most inspirational evenings of my life. Please help us sustain the community by taking a minute to enjoy
The Fancy,
Schwervon!, and
The Lisps and share their brilliance with a friend. Finally, if you feel so inclined, share a word about our mission-driven, recording label with someone you know. We are building more than a label; we are building a movement in an emerging musical frontier. As with all movements, we depend on our community to usher our way forward.
Thank you,
Justin
